What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a customized cap that covers a damaged or decayed tooth, offering greater protection against future harm or infection. Dr. David uses EMAX, zirconia, and porcelain materials to craft these restorations, ensuring they provide the durability, aesthetics, and long-lasting results you deserve.

Dental crowns not only protect vulnerable teeth, but they also restore a tooth’s shape and size, and can blend in with the rest of your smile for a more pleasing appearance.

The Dental Crown Process

Placing a dental crown begins with Dr. David administering local anesthesia to numb the tooth and the surrounding area. This will prevent you from feeling any discomfort during treatment. Then he will remove any damaged or diseased portions of the tooth before filing it down. Digital impressions will be taken to ensure the new crown fits correctly.

Depending on the approach used, traditional crowns are crafted by off-site lab technicians who use the impressions to build a new crown according to the specifications provided. However, Dr. David also provides CEREC one-day dental crowns using advanced technology to ensure faster results.

In this instance, he will use CEREC software to take impressions and make digital adjustments before sending the image to an in-house milling unit. This machine will create your new crown while you wait. When ready, he will secure the crown in place over your tooth and polish it, all in a single appointment.
